Board members received an update on the Suntechs waterfront plan and asked about public access and project timing. Presenters and board members emphasized that the plan includes a pier and an extended boardwalk but that federal and state permitting will govern timing.
"Their pier is they said it on public record. There will be a pier," a member said while summarizing the project record. Staff advised the board not to expect Corps of Engineers approvals until later in 2025 and said construction was unlikely to begin before 2026. The board discussed public meetings, design refinements and parking and noted that final design and community input will follow permit approvals.
Members agreed to monitor permitting schedules and to request updates when federal/state reviewers advance the application into public hearings.
