Council hears Mill Hill park grant prelim ranking; town near funding line

Mayor Smith told the council Sept. 10 that the Department of Ecology's RCO preliminary rankings for the WWRP local parks grants posted the town's Mill Hill proposal at 24th out of 65 applications, putting the town close to the likely funding line.
"Town’s Mill Hill proposal was ranked at twenty-four out of sixty-five. This puts town close to the funding line," Mayor Smith reported. He said that if the town is funded it would raise the question of approaching the Washington Department of Natural Resources about purchasing land adjacent to Mill Hill.
The report prompted no formal action at the meeting; Mayor Smith also mentioned ongoing related meetings including a Methow Salmon Recovery discussion about a recommended land trade at the town edge that could provide right-of-way for transportation routes in exchange for part of Borchard Lane. Council did not set a deadline or next step in public minutes beyond continued coordination.
