Road and Bridge Supervisor Cody Zook updated the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 5 about ongoing maintenance and a possible redesignation of some roads.
Zook said he held a Zoom call with a Kansas Department of Transportation representative about classifying roads as major or minor collectors and reviewed areas that may be redesignated. He briefed commissioners on ongoing ditching work and reviewed how much of each commission district's asphalt budget has been used. Zook also said a walkthrough for the SE Wyandotte bridge is scheduled for later in the week and that the bridge should reopen once the walkthrough and any follow-up work are completed.
Why it matters: Reclassification by KDOT can change maintenance responsibilities and eligibility for certain funding. The bridge reopening will restore a local crossing used by residents and contractors.
