The Nutter Fort Town Council voted unanimously Aug. 12 to end town employee assistance to the neighboring Town of Lumberport, setting Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, as the last day employees will provide support. Councilor Sam Maxson made the motion to end assistance and Councilor Charlene Louk seconded; a roll call recorded six ‘‘yes’’ votes from Councilors Rick Lafferty, Karen Phillips, Charlene Louk, Sam Maxson, Recorder Natalie Haddix and Councilor Shawn Spurlock.
Earlier in the meeting Councilor Charlene Louk moved the council into executive session to discuss the governmental assistance matter; Karen Phillips seconded and the council entered executive session at 6:34 p.m. The executive session concluded at 7:30 p.m., after which the council took the action to end employee assistance. No additional public details about the underlying Lumberport matter were announced at the meeting.
