Public health seeks JUUL settlement RFA, proposes opioid 'spike' exercise for resource sharing

Matthew Marmor, Interim Director of Public Health, told the board he is preparing an RFA to allocate JUUL settlement funds in a manner similar to prior opioid funds and proposed using the Opioid Committee to rehearse a county response to overdose spikes. "There is an opportunity with the Opioid Committee to set up an exercise of a round the table discussion of what to do for a spike alert, how many overdoses are a spike and how to share resources," Marmor said.
Marmor noted that the NYS Opioid Response system currently sends a spike alert when three overdoses are reported in the county within 24 hours. He said the county could coordinate exercises to align responders and clarify thresholds and resource‑sharing protocols; no funding allocations were finalized during the meeting.
