Council adopts revised ward boundaries to balance voters across wards

The Keene City Council adopted an ordinance revising municipal ward boundaries to comply with state election requirements and to balance residential lots across wards.
"This was the most even split among the wards that we could get," Miss Russell told council while presenting the new ward map. She said the proposal evens approximately 1,003 residential lots per ward and reallocates small blocks (including a section of John Thomas Drive) to reduce disruption.
The newly annexed Canyons area will be split among two wards to reflect population distribution, and staff said the city will repeat the process after the 2030 federal census to use improved demographic data. Councilmember (S6) moved to adopt Ordinance No. 2026-695; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Councilmembers described the change as "least disruptive" while noting some residents will be shifted between wards for upcoming elections.
