Cayuga County backs Weedsport water project in County Infrastructure Grant application

At the Feb. 24 meeting the Cayuga County Legislature authorized submission of a County Infrastructure Grant (CIGP) application supporting the Village of Weedsport’s water system improvement project. Resolution 98-26 directs the county planning department to submit a Letter of Intent and full application; the application fee ($250) will be paid by the county and invoiced to the Village of Weedsport for reimbursement.
The Weedsport proposal seeks the CIGP maximum for projects tied to creation of 10 or more housing units — $1,000,000 — and the program requires a 50% non-ESD (local) match. Planning materials presented to the Legislature noted the village’s scope includes replacing aging mains, upgrading storage and metering infrastructure, adding trihalomethane removal capability and preparing the system for redevelopment-linked housing. The Planning Department set an application portal deadline of April 1, 2026 and requested the county act as the formal applicant and grantee, passing reimbursements through to the village if awarded.
If funded, Resolution 98-26 directs the Finance Director to process the $250 wire and to recover that fee from the village. Presenters at the meeting highlighted that the project is largely shovel-ready, that several private housing investments are contingent on improved water infrastructure, and that CIGP funding would help unlock additional private investment in downtown Weedsport.
