Board declines $5,000 membership renewal, approves year-end closure and accounts payable

The Ottawa County commission decided not to renew a $5,000 membership in the Kansas Natural Resource Coalition after County Clerk Tammi Cox presented the renewal and Commissioner Carla Grund said she had "mixed feelings" about the group's local impact. Commissioner Duane Morris contrasted the group with other lobby organizations and the commission reached consensus not to renew at this time.
The board also authorized closing the courthouse at noon on Dec. 31 to complete end-of-year work and approved accounts payable totaling $146,852.73 by a 3-0 vote. Clerk Tammi Cox said she will transfer $15,000 from the museum fund to the museum expansion fund per the museum board and reported the new Emergency Management Director, Jason Gipson, "starts today" and will work with outgoing director Marie Ballou. The clerk noted the courthouse will be closed Dec. 24–25.
