Ottawa County commissioners disagree over abbreviated minutes sent to paper

The Ottawa County Board of County Commissioners debated whether a summary of meeting minutes that Commissioner Carla Grund submits to the local paper should continue. At the Dec. 22 meeting, Grund said she submits an abbreviated recap and argued "it would be cheaper to have abbreviated minutes" if the paper charges for print; Commissioner Scott Mortimer said "she should not be tampering with the minutes," saying the paper should get its information from the official record.
The disagreement continued as the board reviewed changes to the Dec. 8, 2025 minutes. Grund said she wanted all the information she provided included; Commissioner Mortimer and Commissioner Duane Morris said some figures cited by Grund did not match staff numbers. County Clerk Tammi Cox told the board she would review the minutes again to try to produce wording the commission could agree on. The discussion produced no formal vote on the minutes themselves; Cox said she will "go over the minutes a third time" to reconcile competing versions.
