Chair Cory Moates opened a public hearing on the Cherokee County 2025 budget on Aug. 26, 2024, and answered taxpayer questions about protest procedures. After discussion, Moates moved to change the published budget amounts and then to approve the 2025 budget as changed; Commissioner Lorie Johnson seconded both motions and each passed unanimously.
The board approved the following line-item changes as presented: Road and Bridge from $3,416,888 to $3,156,447; Extension Council from $372,220 to $253,169; and Elderly Services from $25,742 to $41,000. Commissioner Moates made the motion to approve the budget "as changed," and Commissioner Johnson seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The budget hearing followed the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR) discussion earlier in the meeting.
