Tammi Cox, Ottawa County Clerk, asked the commission whether to add appropriations for various programs to the 2027 budget and specifically raised the museum budget and a possible five-year lease at $1 per year for the museum building. Commissioners agreed to include the museum as an appropriation and instructed staff to put lease and maintenance details in writing.
"It was the consensus of the Commission to have the museum as an appropriation," Cox said. Cox also requested there be a single point of contact so all budget changes are coordinated; the commission agreed that Cox would serve in that role. Commissioners discussed the Golden Wheel Senior Center and noted existing support through the Department on Aging; they also expressed concern and requested more information about the Service Corps' insurance status before deciding on any new appropriation.
The commission did not set final appropriation amounts during the meeting; staff will return with written lease terms, maintenance responsibilities and firm appropriation figures for 2027.
