Sheriff proposes three‑year vehicle leases and a software switch to Enterpol

Sheriff Russell Thornton told the commission his office is averaging about 30,000 miles per vehicle per year across roughly 750 square miles and that many patrol vehicles are nearing the end of warranty cycles. "The vehicles we have now are averaging 30,000 miles per year to cover the roughly 750 square miles of the county," Thornton said, and he described a proposed lease with Unified Fleet Services that would replace vehicles every three years with any equity applied to future leases.
Thornton reviewed monthly lease estimates and a sample fleet: a Chevy Silverado at $1,580 per month and a Chevy Tahoe at $1,678 per month; he said five Tahoes and one Silverado would amount to about $119,640 annually and that he had budgeted $150,000. Thornton also briefed the commission on records and jail software: Omnigo currently costs $28,822.77 and does not interface well with the county attorney’s system; he proposed Enterpol (used in roughly 70% of state counties) with an ongoing cost after year one of $9,545 per year and installation costs of $48,975. The commission did not take a vote on a contract at the meeting; Thornton said he is exploring cooperative purchasing with neighboring agencies.
