County clerk recommends outside help to screen Emergency Manager applicants

Tammi Cox, Ottawa County Clerk, told commissioners the county has received "over 30 applications" for the Emergency Manager position and recommended outside assistance to narrow candidates. She proposed asking Dickinson County's Emergency Manager and Facilities Director/Deputy Emergency Manager Keith Coleman to review applications and participate in interviews.
"They have received over 30 applications and would like to have the Emergency Manager from Dickinson County and Keith Coleman...review the applications to provide recommendations to the Commission," Cox said. The commission reached consensus to follow Cox's recommendation and involve the suggested reviewers. Coleman also said he is assisting the Kansas Department of Emergency Management with reporting and other tasks that may affect his availability.
The action sets a next step in the hiring timeline: staff will pull application materials together and coordinate review and interview schedules with the external reviewers. Commissioners did not set a public timeline for final selection during the meeting.
