During a separate Road & Bridge update, Commissioner Duane Morris said he had been in contact with the Kansas Department of Commerce and had letters of interest prepared for Evergy, Oklo Inc. and TerraPower regarding small modular nuclear reactors; he described modern safety protocols and said he would personally like Ottawa County to pursue the idea. Commissioner Mortimer emphasized that signing the letters did not bind the county but would express interest; the board agreed by consensus to sign the three letters and attend a meeting in April on the topic.
Commissioners also discussed FEMA mitigation steps for 230th Road south of Highway 18 and processes required before mitigation work begins.
