County appoints department heads, banks and waives GAAP for 2026
Summary
Ottawa County approved department-head appointments, named three official depositories, appointed the Minneapolis Messenger as the official newspaper, and adopted a GAAP waiver resolution during its Jan. 12 meeting.
The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved a series of administrative actions for 2026, including naming Citizens State Bank & Trust, Bennington State Bank and the Bank of Tescott as official county depositories and appointing the Minneapolis Messenger as the official county newspaper.
Commissioners also appointed Chris Smith as Public Works Director, Truette McQueen as County Appraiser, Keith Coleman as Facilities Director, and Jason Gipson as Emergency Management Director for 2026. The board adopted Resolution 2026-01 waiving GAAP requirements for county accounting purposes; each of those motions passed unanimously, 3–0.
County Clerk Tammi Cox presented the items during the reorganizational portion of the agenda and commissioners approved the slate as part of routine start-of-year business. The actions place the county's fiscal and administrative leadership in place for the coming year.
