Niles council confirms appointments to housing, planning and archaeology advisory panels; praises Hunter Ice Festival

The Niles City Council on Jan. 27 appointed Catherine Waggoner to a five-year term on the Niles Housing Commission and reappointed Jennifer Scally to a three-year term on the Niles Planning Commission. The council also reappointed Christina Arseneau, Jamie Bennett and Mollie Watson to three-year terms on the Fort St. Joseph Archaeology Advisory Committee. Each appointment recorded a 7-0 vote in the minutes.
Councilmembers used their report time to thank volunteers and praise the Hunter Ice Festival. Councilmember Gretchen Bertschy specifically thanked volunteers; Councilmember Charlie McAfee and Mayor Nick Shelton also commented that the festival and associated promotions were successful. Charles Nelson, identified as DDA Chair, provided an update on the Downtown Development Authority and the Hunter Ice Festival during citizen participation earlier in the meeting.
The appointments will be recorded by the clerk and any onboarding or orientation next steps will be handled by the relevant city departments.
