The City of Niles council on Jan. 27 approved an MDOT/AERO grant to remove trees obstructing Runway 33 at Jerry Tyler Memorial Airport and authorized the Mayor to sign documents for parcels E20, E21, E26, E27, E31, E32 and E33.
Council also awarded the phase-one approach clearing contract—tree removal on lots E26, E27, E31, E32 and E33—to Treeworks, Inc. of Nunica, Michigan, and authorized the Mayor to sign the contract. Motions to approve the grant and to award the contract carried with unanimous roll-call votes among present councilmembers.
The minutes record the parcels by identifier but do not include a contract dollar amount in the public minutes for the award; the city will proceed with contract execution and project scheduling as authorized.
