At the Jan. 27 meeting the Niles City Council approved the Utilities Department’s Renewable Energy Plan and authorized the Michigan Public Power Agency to submit the plan to the Michigan Public Service Commission in compliance with Public Act 235 of 2023.
Councilmember Jessica Nelson moved to approve the plan and Councilmember Gretchen Bertschy seconded; the roll call vote recorded all present members as yea. The approval directs the city’s municipal utility to proceed with the filing required by state law and signals city-level compliance with PA 235’s planning requirements.
No fiscal appropriation tied to the filing was recorded in the minutes; staff follow-up and any required reporting to the council will be handled through the Utilities Department and the Michigan Public Power Agency filing process.
