Niles council holds retreat to review finances, planning and programs

The Niles City Council met in retreat on Feb. 17, 2025, at the Law Enforcement Complex from 5:32 p.m. to 9:05 p.m., according to the meeting minutes. Clerk Tina Bergman recorded attendance that included Administrator Richard Huff, Attorney Robert Landgraf, Mayor Shelton and council members Georgia Boggs, Gretchen Bertschy, Sheila Koebel, Timothy Rogers, William Weimer, Jessica Nelson and Michael Thompson.
The retreat agenda opened with supper and moved into a broad review of municipal finances and planning. Materials provided to the council covered fiscal years 2015–2024 and included department-level charts, pension and OPEB liabilities, and planning maps for 2025 roadway projects. The packet also listed items for further consideration such as downtown refuse options, a proposed solar energy and battery storage project, and a proposed Pucker Street Dam fishing access site.
