Commissioners approve Securus amendment lowering inmate phone rates to $0.12/minute

The Lancaster County Commissioners on June 17 approved a fifth amendment to the county’s inmate telephone services contract with Securus Technologies to align calling rates with a recent Federal Communications Commission ruling. The new flat rate is $0.12 per minute, down from $0.15, and the minutes state that the rate is based on a medium jail size (500–999 inmates). The $0.12 rate includes $0.02 per minute to the facility for safety and security needs.
The amendment extends the contract by 12 months through Sept. 27, 2027, with three additional one-year options to extend. The board approved the amendment unanimously. The minutes attribute the change to compliance with FCC 25-75 and record the contract-term extension and rate methodology in the contract amendment notice.
