Alex Kovach, Planning & Building official, told the council the 2027 periodic update work includes analyzing how to accommodate projected growth. Kovach said the city is projected to add 456 residents over the next 20 years and that the next steps include analyzing land capacity in each zone and evaluating infrastructure needs.
Kovach told council that housing must be planned to meet all economic needs and that the city currently has no deficiencies in its ability to plan for the projected growth; community conversations and infrastructure evaluation are the next steps. The majority of the planning discussion was informational; council approved hiring Berk Consulting separately to help with hazard resiliency components of the comp plan.
