Sheriff Erica Koxlen and Chief Deputy Wayne Dahl told the Galesville Common Council on Feb. 12 that Flock Safety license-plate reader cameras capture vehicle make, model, color and plate number but do not identify drivers or automatically return owner information.
The presenters said the County is developing a web portal to publish search counts and participating organizations every 24 hours, that the County does not share LPR data with federal partners, and that it is filtering searches related to immigration or reproductive-rights inquiries. The system was reviewed by the County Law Enforcement Committee and included in the County budget, the presenters said.
Council members asked for more written details about data sharing, retention and any contracts governing access. The presentation described technical capabilities and noted limits the system places on identification of drivers; council members said they still had privacy concerns and sought formal oversight through a council policy or ordinance.
