Ellis County adds BJ Wagner to RPM Speedway lease so promoters can secure insurance for 2026 season
Summary
The commission approved adding BJ Wagner (51 W Promotions) to the RPM Speedway lease so promoters can secure insurance coverage for the remainder of the 2026 season, including an event during the county fair on July 11. County legal counsel said the change only adds an insurable entity.

The Ellis County Commission voted to update the RPM Speedway lease to add BJ Wagner of 51 W Promotions as a co-promoter for the 2026 season, a change promoters said is necessary for the track to obtain insurance.
Chris Sutton, promoter of RPM Speedway, told commissioners the addition would allow Wagner to "step in, help out, run the race facility this year" and to extend insurance coverage for property and events through the remainder of the contract year. County counselor Bill Jeter said the modification "doesn't really change anything" in legal effect and "just adds another entity to the lease agreement for purposes of being insurable."
Commissioners discussed the timing and noted promoters hope to run a race at the county fair on July 11. A commissioner moved to approve the updated RPM lease for the 2026 race season; the motion was seconded and carried by recorded voice vote with no opposition.
The action takes effect immediately under the current contract through the end of 2026; officials said they will "regroup sometime this year" to decide longer-term arrangements for the facility.
