Ellis County allows fireworks in unincorporated areas July 2–4

The Ellis County Commission moved to permit the discharge of fireworks in unincorporated areas on July 2, 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. County staff said recent rains have reduced fire risk and presented incident counts from recent years; last year staff recorded one fire‑incident call related to fireworks of less than one acre.
Commissioners discussed whether additional staffing should be scheduled for evening coverage but staff said the volunteer fire system and existing chiefs coordinate extra coverage as needed and no routine additional staffing is planned. The motion to allow fireworks during the listed hours passed in open session.
