Washtucna school accepted into BARN network to address chronic absenteeism

Stacy, joining remotely, told the board that the school was accepted into the Building Attendance and Reengagement Network (BARN), a regional initiative focused on improving chronic student attendance. She said the district worked with regional ESD staff and traveled to Spokane for a work day on the project.
"Our school was accepted into the BARN program which stands for Building Attendance and Reengagement Network," Stacy said, adding that the network consists of 10 regional schools collaborating on strategies to reengage chronically absent students. Stacy described the program as timely because the district has a "very high percentage of chronic absence" and said she was grateful to Dr. Clark for approving the trip.
Stacy also reported recent student activities, including a hatchery field trip and visiting arts programming, and noted the district has a new paraeducator who recently passed certification.
