District staff flags OSPI delay affecting $47,000 capital checks

A district staff member briefed the board on September budget status and an accompanying audit report, saying the first month of the new budget "looks great" but that the district encountered a timing problem with state funds.
"We've run into an issue with getting the money from OSPI in time to cover those checks," the staff member said, noting about $47,000 in capital checks the district had hoped to mail on Oct. 31 may need to be voided and reissued once state reimbursements arrive. The staff member said checks might be reissued in the first or second week of November after OSPI funds are received.
The presentation also referenced an audit covering the 2022-23 fiscal year and a desk-audit submission for 2023-24 under review. Board members asked to monitor cash flow and requested an updated status after the district receives the state payment.
