"Ultimately we had 3 lawsuits, and the result is that the original applicant that sued us isn't getting everything they wanted, and nor are we making any admission that the city staff did something wrong," one council member said, noting the decision was a business choice by the insurer. Another council member said the city had incurred about $30,000 in legal costs and expressed concern about litigation expenses even while supporting settlement. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote.
The council instructed staff to proceed with the settlement execution and to report any follow-up obligations as required by the agreement.
