County hires two Road & Bridge operators and approves using Fabick Cat credit to buy roller

Road and Bridge Supervisor Cody Zook informed the Cherokee County Board on Aug. 19 that a past overpayment to Fabick Cat left the county with a $71,321.00 credit and that staff recommended using that credit toward the purchase of a new roller. "Zook informed the Board the due to a past mistaken overpayment on equipment from Fabick Cat, the county currently holds a credit amount of $71,321.00," the minutes state.
Commissioner Cory Moates moved to waive the sealed-bid process and use the credit through Fabick Cat to purchase a Cat CB2.7 at a purchase price of $63,459.00; Commissioner Myra Frazier seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Moates noted the Road & Bridge staff's performance during recent storms when making the motion.
Separately, Zook presented notices of new employees and the board approved hiring Jeffery Morisset and David Spatafora as Utility/Operator 1, effective Aug. 19, 2024, at a rate of $16.00 per hour. The hires were approved by recorded motions and passed unanimously.
Zook also provided a sheet proposing changes in road designations classifying routes as major and minor collectors; County Counselor Jake Conard advised that a formal resolution will be required and offered to prepare one for a future meeting.
