Commissioners approve payroll and payables; Johnson records lone no vote on payables

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved routine business on Aug. 19, 2024, including minutes from Aug. 12 and the Aug. 13 canvass, and the county payroll. Commissioner Myra Frazier moved to approve the Aug. 12 minutes and Commissioner Cory Moates moved to approve the Aug. 13 canvass minutes; both motions were seconded and passed unanimously.
The board then approved payroll as presented. When the board voted to approve payables, Commissioner Lorie Johnson recorded a dissenting vote; the minutes note the motion passed with Johnson voting against. Later in the meeting the board approved the 2025 County Payroll, Payables, and Holiday calendar with June 19 excluded as a holiday after Commissioner Frazier moved for approval and Commissioner Johnson seconded.
The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Room at the Cherokee County Courthouse. No additional details about the nature of Commissioner Johnson’s dissent were recorded in the minutes.
