The proposed budget includes personnel and benefits provisions designed to support town employees: a 4% cost-of-living adjustment for all employees and merit-based increases tied to performance, along with a small set of new positions.
"Supporting our workforce remains a priority, so the budget includes a 4% cost of living adjustment for all employees along with the merit based increases tied to performance for general employees and the career development program for our police officers," Finance Director Steven Kaplan said. Kaplan also listed pension obligations of about $1,400,000 for the police pension and $573,000 for general employee pensions, and said the budget adds a youth librarian and a part-time administrative assistant to support police public records requests for body-worn camera footage.
Council members did not vote separately on individual staffing changes during the hearing but reviewed personnel cost drivers as components of the tentative budget.
