Lantana staff to propose tiered special-events permitting after council flags gaps

"We have a gap in our code about how, how we regulate and how we approve special events on public property," Kathleen said, proposing that staff be empowered to approve smaller events while reserving council review for larger-scale gatherings. She suggested 50 attendees as a working threshold for small events, subject to council feedback.
Council discussed reserving certain parks for larger events only if they have the infrastructure (parking, restrooms) and requiring rudimentary site plans, off-duty police for traffic management, and event deposits or fees to cover town services. Staff will analyze park amenities and prepare draft ordinance language, including a fee schedule and criteria for when council-level review is required.
Next steps: staff will examine each park’s amenities and return with proposed tiered permitting language, suggested thresholds and any recommended fees or operational requirements for larger events.
