Department staff presented the 2026 Land & Water Conservation annual workplan required by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) SWRM grant. Reali told the committee the plan outlines the department’s core yearly activities and that the 2026 requirement is new: each action must directly tie into goals from Calumet County’s Land and Water Resource Management (LWRM) plan, including cropland, livestock, water quality, forestry, invasive species, wildlife, urban and watershed management.
Reali noted the SWRM grant funds approximately 1.6 full-time equivalents (FTE) within the department, and that applications for engineering projects and cropping practice funds are submitted annually and paid the following year. Committee members discussed the plan’s alignment with county LWRM goals and noted the county’s Producer-Led Watershed Program as a local funding path; the county’s next formal LWRM plan review is scheduled for 2028.
