Jay County approves multiple 2026 EDIT funding requests including Arts in the Parks and economic-development staffing

At the Aug. 20 session, commissioners approved a series of 2026 funding requests for community programs and economic development. Carolyn Carducci, executive director of Arts Place, requested $15,000 for Arts in the Parks after reporting 974 participants this year; the board approved the full $15,000. Doug Horn moved and Duane Monroe seconded each award, and motions passed by unanimous vote unless noted.
Key approvals included $15,000 for Arts Place; $2,500 for Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department fireworks; $3,500 for ECI Small Business Development Center; $8,000 from county general plus $27,000 from Economic Development for Jay County 4‑H Clubs; $5,000 for the Jay County 4th of July Committee; $10,000 for the Jay County Chamber of Commerce; up to $254,250 for the Jay County Development Corporation to support a potential community developer position (pending contract negotiations); and a $35,000 allocation for John Jay Center for Learning training equipment (reduced from a $70,000 request). Commissioners said EDIT funding decisions aim to leverage private matches and deliver workforce and community programming.
