Residents urge protections for Buffalo Mound as county reviews zoning changes

Stout said the change would provide more public oversight and specifically raised preservation concerns for Buffalo Mound. "Stout referred to concerns for the Building Permit approval process, requesting consideration for Planning Commission approval, rather than administrative approval," the minutes record. Community members John Hund and Bud Hund described the history and local significance of Buffalo Mound and cited the Wabaunsee County Comprehensive Plan as a guiding document for future decisions.
Zoning Administrator Josh Falk reviewed Planning Commission actions, including a variance for a 30x30 garage at 5 Windemere and multiple Conditional Use Permits for quarries and a short-term rental that the Planning Commission forwarded for County Commission review on June 8. County Attorney Tim Liesmann reminded the commission that the statutory process governs any change to zoning regulations and that the full process will be followed before adoption.
