Board details response to March 4 bomb threat; praises rapid action and reunification

Board members and administrators reviewed the district's response to a March 4 bomb threat, highlighting rapid action by front-office staff, school safety personnel and local law enforcement. The superintendent said staff received a call at 11 a.m. and that school secretaries, principals, the Indian Hill Rangers and partner agencies executed evacuation and reunification procedures.

"Our Indian Hill Rangers were here in less than 1 minute," the district's safety presenter said during the meeting, describing how rangers and neighboring districts' officers arrived quickly and how SWAT teams with dogs later swept buildings. Administrators said some students were moved to the football field and others were secured inside before reunification efforts with parents at the elementary school. Transportation and food services were also mobilized — three buses transported middle school students to the elementary campus and Aramark provided meals on short notice.

District officials stressed that lessons learned are being incorporated into after-action recommendations and that safety plans, drills and vulnerability assessments are routinely updated. The superintendent reminded families of reporting options, including the Ohio Safe School Tip Line, and asked community members to "say something" if they see concerning information.

Board members thanked staff and community partners for the calm and effective response. The board said it will continue to refine procedures and conduct joint exercises with safety partners to improve reunification and communication practices.
