Lantana accepts $1.8 million FIND grant to harden Bicentennial Park seawall

Staff presented a grant agreement with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) for $1.8 million in Waterways Assistance Program funds, with a $900,000 town match drawn from an earlier Resilient Florida agreement. Vanessa (staff) explained the project will replace and raise the Bicentennial Park seawall—raising the park side about 18 inches and installing sheet piles and a new cap along the fishing-pier area.
The bid opening is scheduled for Nov. 4 and staff projected construction would begin in January with an expected duration of about eight months; the north side of the park and parts of the fishing-pier area will be closed during construction. Council discussed staging, parking impacts for local businesses and the July 4 event; staff said they would examine alternate staging locations and the possibility of doing the south side later to preserve July 4 activities. Council approved entering the grant agreement and authorized the town manager to execute necessary documents by unanimous vote.
Engineers said the primary purpose of the seawall is to protect the land behind it and cap deterioration that is undermining the sidewalk and park areas; staff noted that the grant funding is time‑sensitive and would likely be used now rather than delayed.
