Residents urge more code enforcement and raise neighborhood complaints at Lantana meeting

During the public comment period several residents described disputes with code enforcement and asked the council to add staff to handle increased workload as the town grows.
Joseph Fitting described a personal dispute with a code enforcement officer while explaining he was trying to organize tools and clear driveway space: “One of our code enforcement agents has a problem with me trying to empty out 54 years of tools… I've been bringing it out, putting it underneath the canopy, cleaning it up, throwing out what I don't need, and putting it back in my garage.” Councilors acknowledged the concern and asked staff to look into possible compromises.
Catherine Skirvin urged additional enforcement coverage, saying she had previously asked for another code enforcement officer and describing recurring problems such as garbage placed out too early and coconut limbs on power lines. The council said it would make a note of the specific complaints and explore staffing and scheduling options to address workload and neighborhood concerns.
