Project presenter described the work as a safety and visual improvement that will replace striped “no parking” areas with hardscape bump-outs and lowered vegetation to improve drivers’ sight lines. “It’s a safety and, a visual improvement of the… turnout there from the condo… the line of sight is a little bit skewed,” staff said. Council discussion focused on prioritization: one member noted ADA ramp and crosswalk projects that remain unfunded, arguing the island project was not the highest priority. That councilor recorded the only recorded no vote; the award passed by voice vote 5–1.
Councilors who supported the contract said they have personally had close calls at the location and favored a targeted, lower-cost fix rather than delaying until a larger road reconstruction. The council authorized the town manager to execute the agreement and any amendments.
