Dan, chair of the Clay County Extension Council, introduced extension staff and summarized University of Missouri Extension’s programs and partnerships with area universities and community organizations.
The presentation highlighted a range of programs—agriculture and environmental support, small-business development, health and human services (including fall-prevention classes and Tai Chi), 4-H youth development, Master Gardener volunteers, and a tax-assistance coalition. Dan and extension staff pointed to measurable local impacts: hundreds of volunteers, thousands of tax returns prepared, and the economic value of refunds and credits delivered to residents.
GK Callahan and other extension staff urged aldermen to promote extension offerings locally, noting that many extension services are free or low-cost and that council members can help reduce the “best-kept-secret” effect by sharing resources and partnering on events. The extension asked the city to consider hosting or publicizing classes and to coordinate on outreach.
