Tonkawa Council appoints Keith Denton to fill Ward 3 seat

The Tonkawa City Council on March 17 approved the appointment of Keith Denton to the vacant Ward 3 council seat. The action followed presentations by four candidates—Lance Glasgow, Keith Denton, Blake Reed and Shelly Langston (Langston was out of the country but remained under consideration)—and a points-based ranking by council members. The motion to appoint Denton was made by Councilman Reece Simpson and seconded by Councilman Charles Conaghan; the motion carried with all present members voting yes.
Council members said candidates were scored on a Number 1–4 basis and points were totaled to determine the selection. The appointment was made under Oklahoma statute O.S. 11 § 8-109 and will continue "until the next general municipal election, and until a successor is elected and qualified," as stated during the meeting. The appointment also fills the corresponding Tonkawa Municipal Authority trustee seat tied to the Ward 3 vacancy.
