Mayor warns property‑tax reform could slash hundreds of millions from county coffers

"Under the proposal currently being discussed, Miami Dade County could lose an estimated $385,800,000 in the 1st year alone, which is more than 10% of our general fund. And that loss would grow to nearly $697,000,000 in the 2nd year," she said, listing parks, fire, rescue, libraries and transportation among services that could face cuts.
She said the administration will continue to provide clear information so voters are informed ahead of the November ballot and that the county is preparing contingency plans. Commissioners asked whether the property tax measure would affect the current proposed budget; the mayor said it would not affect this budget year but would be relevant the following year if enacted.
