The commission amended item 2b to require the county mayor or the mayor’s designee to work with the Miami‑Dade Sheriff's Office to identify underused county buildings or facilities that could meet MDSO needs and include any such sites in a required report. The amendment was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Chairman Gonzales and other commissioners discussed a previously noted Eureka property where the fire department has completed a build and is using space. Chief Palmer responded that the property is available and that the sheriff’s office has access to it, though the chief suggested capital funding issues may explain why Sheriff's Office build‑out has not commenced. Commissioners asked staff to work with the sheriff’s office to expedite access where feasible.
