Hialeah resident urges Miami‑Dade to make cultural grants more equitable

Jose Aldi, a Hialeah resident, used the meeting's public‑comment period to press Miami‑Dade officials on how cultural affairs grants are distributed. Aldi said the county awards large grants to well funded organizations while smaller, primarily Spanish‑speaking communities receive little support, and he asked the Cultural Affairs Board to require additional outreach and equity measures in award processes.
"Whenever you provide a grant, you are providing economic opportunities," Aldi said, asking the county to ensure grant programs include systems to help marginalized and low‑income communities apply and benefit. He told the commission Hialeah residents had received roughly $50,000 of what he characterized as a $200,000,000 grant pool and urged officials to make the awards process more accessible and equitable.
