Sedgwick County OKs $9,550 contract modification for DEI consultant to support council facilitation

Sedgwick County’s Board of Business Contracts voted Nov. 14 to accept a contract modification with Hicks Carter Hicks LLC to provide additional organizational diversity and inclusion consulting and a one‑day on‑site facilitation for the county’s DEI council through Dec. 31, 2024, in the amount of $9,550.
Jamie O'Loughlin, speaking on behalf of the county manager's office, presented the recommendation and said the modification covers extra consulting time and a one‑day facilitation session for the DEI committee. "HCH will be assisting Sedgwick County with additional consulting and a 1 day on-site consulting and facilitation with the DEI committee to include 6 additional new members," O'Loughlin said.
A board member asked whether the county was stepping away from DEI initiatives; Tanya Cole, assistant county manager, said the county had removed the DEI project manager position from the 2025 budget but that the DEI Council remains active. Cole said the county obtained an extension of training materials from the consultant at no charge through Nov. 30 and that the $9,550 covers additional consulting and the facilitation. "What we're doing here at Sedgwick County is about respect, belonging, inclusion, access," Cole said, characterizing the intended reframing of language and training.
The motion to approve the contract modification was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with all board members recorded as voting aye.
