The Vernonia School District Board voted April 9 to table adoption of the 2026–27 instructional calendar after members raised concerns about proposed start dates that would begin school before Labor Day.
Two calendar options were presented; the main difference was the placement of a teacher work day either after winter break (Option A) or after the first semester (Option B). Several board members expressed concern about an early start, saying building heat and family summer schedules made the options unworkable. Alicia Mahoney moved to table the calendar; Tony Holmes seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The calendar committee will revise the options and return to the board in May with proposals for adoption before the next school year begins.
