Vernonia board and consultant stress anonymous survey and broad community participation

Consultant Rob Hess told the board the search survey would be anonymous and hosted by GLS so responses are not routed through district systems. He said respondents could optionally provide a name if they wished to indicate interest in serving on interview teams, but that the default survey will not collect personal identifying information.
“it is anonymous, and it doesn't even go to anyone here. The data is gonna go to to our firm,” Hess said, explaining how compiled results will be presented to trustees. Board members said that reassurance should encourage honest input from staff worried about retaliation and asked that survey language clearly state its anonymity and how to sign up to participate on interview teams separately.
Trustees discussed using staggered and representative interview teams — students, support staff, teaching staff, coaches and community members — and emphasized balancing teacher and support‑staff representation. The consultant and board agreed to distribute the survey widely, publish committee meeting dates, and report weekly applicant updates to the board.
