Board members reviewed GLS's salary comparisons and discussed a publicized salary range for the next superintendent. One board member recommended a minimum in the “$140,000 range,” and members generally agreed to advertise a salary range of $140,000 to $170,000 so applicants understand the district’s expectations.
Board members also cautioned that the advertised salary is only base pay; employer contributions for PERS and benefits would increase the district’s total compensation cost. A board member said the actual district cost when employer PERS and benefits are included could be “somewhere in the $2.10 to $2.20” range (interpreted in context as $210,000–$220,000 total compensation), and trustees discussed the budgetary tradeoffs of that reality while asking staff to factor the full fiscal impact into planning.
The board agreed the advertised range should attract qualified applicants while remaining mindful of the district budget and the separate need to staff or reconfigure special‑education/student‑services roles.
