Superintendent outlines budget process, proposes student services director role

The superintendent reviewed the district's budget-development process and the three core district priorities: high academics, career and technical education (CTE), and social-emotional supports. He said administrators have been asked to evaluate positions and spending and that the district will decide in the coming weeks whether cuts are required.
"As of right now I don't know if we're going to cut or not," the superintendent said, describing the process as a deep review of spending, enrollment and required services. He told the board the administration is considering a student services director who would manage special education and some administrative supports to relieve principals and counselors.
Board members asked for clearer, more user-friendly budget summaries and for administrators to return with options that include cost estimates and implications for programming such as CTE and fine arts. The superintendent said the district will also examine bargaining implications and inflationary pressures as it finalizes recommendations.
