The Vernonia School District board voted to adopt the policy updates listed in item 7.2 after a motion and second; the motion passed by voice vote.
"I move to approve policy updates listed in item 7.2," a board member said before the board approved the motion. The board also voted to accept the retirements of Mark Brown (maintenance supervisor), Marie Knight (business manager), Peter Weisel (middle/high school counselor), Sina Wilmoth (3rd'5th grade teacher) and Theresa Gray (instructional assistant), effective June 30, 2026. The board noted the district will post staffing openings in the coming weeks.
On separate motions following an executive session, the board approved licensed and administrative contract extensions (Resolution 2026-03 and Resolution 2026-04) and the board accepted the 2025'26 annual evaluation of Superintendent Jim Hellman. The motions carried; one vote was recorded as an abstention on the contract-extensions motion during the roll call.
The actions complete the board's current personnel decisions for the school year and set the district to post openings and proceed with recruitment and budget planning tied to staffing decisions.
