Commission approves annexation to Vermillion Cliff Special Service District to secure fire protection for five parcels

The Kane County Commission approved Resolution R‑2026‑12 on June 9 to annex five parcels into the Vermillion Cliff Special Service District to provide fire protection to properties north of Kanab. Staff member Taylor told the commission five parcels owned by three property owners signed petitions to be annexed and that the petition process waives the protest public hearing period when all owners are in agreement.
Commissioners said the parcels presently rely on Kanab City for emergency response but could not be annexed directly into the city because the parcels are noncontiguous; the annexation into the special service district was presented as the most reliable way to ensure immediate fire protection. Celeste noted a correction needed in the resolution’s recital (the number of landowners) and staff agreed to make the textual correction before final filing. The commission voted to adopt the resolution and staff will pass the action along to Kanab City staff for coordination.
